NPYM 2007 Junior Friends CampAre you headed to high school in the fall? Already in high school? Do you want to spend five days swimming, hiking, giggling around a campfire, napping and having fun in a beautiful setting with some of the most wonderful people you'll ever meet? Then come to Junior Friends Camp! Download complete registration information in [Word] or [PDF] format. In addition to tons of fun and sleep deprivation, Junior Friends offers high-school-age Friends the opportunity to spend quality time bonding with Friends from all over the Northwest, experience Quaker process, and sleep (a little) under the stars. We hope you will also join us at Yearly Meeting at Reed College in Portland just before Camp! Due to space constraints, this year there is a registration cap for camp: 30, including Advisors. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so send your forms in as soon as possible! Details:
Where: Fort Stevens State Park is about 97 miles from Reed College in Portland and 10 miles west of Astoria on US 101. Visit Oregon State Parks website for more info. Flush toilets, showers, swimming and hiking are available.
How Much: Only $45! (Note that Yearly Meeting registration is separate.) SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE! Don't let money prevent you from attending. Ask your monthly meeting for assistance first. JFs also have limited scholarship funds. Please also plan on chipping in for gas money -- the amount will depend on the distance you're traveling, but budget at least $20. REGISTER BY 7/7 OR PAY A LATE FEE. Late requests to the JFs for scholarships cannot be honored. Getting There: Contact your local transportation coordinator (see below). There will definitely be carpooling; if there's enough people, we might also rent a van for I-5 travelers. Directions to the park are available on their website (see above). What to Bring: sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, towel, toothbrush/paste & toiletries, sunscreen, clothes for cold nights & hot days (we will be on the coast!), swimsuit & water gear (innertubes! Crocodiles!), two + pr. of shoes, tent (if you have one), flashlight, games/cards, cup/plate/utensils, and MEDICAL RELEASE FORM [Word] [PDF]. (Included in registration form also.) Calling all FAPs! Friendly Adult Participants are "more senior" Friends who can't stay away from the fun of Camp. You get to hang out with Junior Friends AND help out with getting from Yearly and back home! What a deal! Parents, please consider joining us -- it really is fun. For more information, please contact the co-clerks or advisors. |
