Resources for NPYM Friends

NPYM and the wider Quaker community provide various resources for Friends to socialize, worship, and take part in political action.


NPYM has an active youth community, with opportunities for youth to socialize and participate in social service and political actions.

Quaker Center, a retreat center near Santa Cruz, California, presents workshops on topics of interest to Friends.

Pendle Hill is a Quaker center in Pennsylvania, for spiritual growth, study and service.

Friends General Conference is a national organization of Friends meetings. While NPYM is not a member of FGC, many individual Pacific northwestern Friends participate in FGC activities.

Friends Peace Teams is a Spirit-led organization working around the world to develop long-term relationships with communities in conflict to create programs for peacebuilding, healing and reconciliation. FPT's programs build on extensive Quaker experience combining practical and spiritual aspects of conflict resolution.

Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Concerns is a North American Quaker faith community that affirms that of God in all people.

Quaker Earthcare Witness is a spiritually-centered movement of Quakers and like-minded people seeking ways to integrate concern for the environment with Friends' long-standing testimonies for simplicity, integrity, peace, and equality.


Faith In Action

Since Friends believe that the way to achieve peace is through social justice, we have a strong emphasis on carrying our message of faith to the world through service and political action. Following are some organizations and activities that provide opportunities for NPYM Friends to act on their beliefs.

The American Friends Service Committee provides opportunities for Friends to participate in social justice work.

Friends Committee on National Legislation is the Quaker lobbying organization in Washington, DC, representing Friends views on political issues.

Friends World Committee on Consultation is an organization whose purpose it is to encourage fellowship between all branches of the Religious Society of Friends. In FWCC's Section of the Americas it sponsors visitation, youth programs, and much more.


Publications of Interest to Friends

The organizational structure and guiding beliefs of Friends in NPYM are set forth in our book of Faith & Practice, which is currently undergoing revision.

Western Friend, formerly Friends Bulletin, is a monthly magazine and web publication for the Western United States Friends.

Friends Journal is a monthly magazine for U.S. Friends of the Friends General Conference and Friends United Meeting persuasions.

Pendle Hill Bookstore publishes many pamphlets on Quaker topics as well as having a selection of Quaker, Christian, and Interfaith literature.

Friends General Conference Bookstore carries many books on Quaker topics. All of their items are available by mail order.

Friends United Press is the publishing ministry of Friends United Meeting.

Barclay Press is the publishing ministry of Northwest Yearly Meeting and Evangelical Friends International.
